Is Your Brand Ready for the Festive Rush on Quick Commerce?
A forgotten gift. An extra box of mithai. A diya needed before the puja. Quick commerce is increasingly becoming the channel for these last-minute festive purchases, and here's what this year's order data shows.
It's Already Getting Busy Out There
The festive season hasn't fully arrived yet, but early order trends are already giving a glimpse of what's ahead. Across all channels, festive-season orders are already up 31.7% year over year, and quick commerce is growing fastest of all.
Quick commerce outgrew every other channel this festive season.
Quick commerce orders grew 51.1% year over year at the festive season's onset, well ahead of B2C (31.3%) and D2C websites (25.8%).
Last year's full festive season saw quick commerce orders grow 120% year over year, the biggest growth driver among major online shopping channels. If quick commerce is already outpacing every other channel this early, the season ahead is worth planning for now.
How India Shops When the Festive Mood Kicks In
FMCG led the festive-season jump, but it wasn't the only category on the move. Fashion, electronics, and beauty all grew faster than the period average too.
FMCG led the surge, but the jump reached well beyond groceries.
FMCG orders grew 109.3% at the festive season's onset, well clear of every other category.
This isn't just a grocery story. Beauty (38.9%) and Electronics (26.6%) grew fast too, early proof that festive gifting and impulse buys are moving to quick commerce before the big campaigns even launch.
The Habit Is Sticking Around, Even After the Lights Come Down
Quick commerce isn't just a grocery habit anymore. Categories that used to belong to regular e-commerce, like fashion, health, and beauty, are moving to faster delivery.
Fashion overtook every other category, more than doubling in a year.
Fashion & Accessories orders grew 135.5% over the year, the fastest-growing category on quick commerce. Health & Wellness (98.8%), FMCG (72.8%), Beauty (69.9%), and Home Décor (66.2%) all grew fast too.
The deeper shift isn't about categories, it's about timing. Shoppers are deciding what to buy in the moment they need it, not during a planned browse. If you're not stocked and visible on quick commerce, you're not losing a fast sale, you're losing the sale.
The Next Big Wave Isn't Coming From the Metros
Dark stores and delivery infrastructure have only recently reached Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets, turning pent-up demand into instant access.
Tier 2 cities grew more than twice as fast as Tier 1.
Tier 2 cities grew 169.2% this year, more than twice as fast as Tier 1 (71.9%). Tier 3 wasn't far behind at 87.4%.
Dark stores and delivery infrastructure have only recently reached these markets, turning pent-up demand into instant access. The fastest-growing customer isn't in the metros, they're already ordering from Tier 2 and Tier 3.
Where Things Start to Crack Under the Pressure
More orders, tighter delivery windows, and demand from more cities. All of it exposes gaps that stay hidden on a normal day.
Manual PO handling slows fulfilment
POs from Blinkit, Zepto, Instamart, and BigBasket often arrive as PDFs over email and need manual entry. At festive peak, when PO volumes rise sharply, this can lead to delays, pricing errors, and missed fulfilment windows.
Limited dark-store visibility
Brands need to know how much stock sits at each dark store and pin code. Without this visibility, a product can show as available on the app even when the nearest dark store has no stock to fulfil the order.
Separate channels make inventory hard to control
Quick commerce, marketplaces, and brand websites can operate in separate systems. During the festive rush, this lack of a unified inventory view can lead to overselling, stock mismatches, and missed SLAs.
Manual rate-card reconciliation gets harder at scale
Festive sales bring more orders, and more transactions to reconcile. Changes in pricing, commissions, and storage charges make manual checks time-consuming, and billing discrepancies easier to miss.
The upside is real, and it's yours to capture. Brands that get their inventory, orders, and fulfilment ready before the rush are the ones who turn this festive season into their strongest quick commerce quarter yet.
Don't Let the Rush Catch You Off Guard
Put it together and the opportunity is clear: quick commerce is where shoppers turn for urgent, last-minute festive purchases, and that demand reaches well past groceries and metros. The brands that get operationally ready now are the ones who'll make the most of this festive season. Start with these six checks.
